Senate Speaker demands speedier OECD accession

Senate Speaker Mircea Geoana sent two letters to President Traian Basescu and Prime Minister Emil Boc demanding them to speed up Romania’s accession to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). In the letters, also sent to Mediafax, Geoana underlines that last week he attended the Paris OECD forum marking 50 years of activity for the organisation. The Senate Speaker added that OECD is currently the most important international forum that debates global economic and social policies, providing expertise and solutions to G8 and G20. “I firmly believe that Romania’s accession to OECD would bring our country into the club of developed countries, like most of the other recent EU members. Moreover, Romania’s accession to OEDC would be an important catalyst for internal efforts towards modernization and development in order to increase prosperity and fight poverty (…),” Geoana wrote.
