Number of second-hand cars registered drops by a quarter, in first 4 months

Nearly 35,400 second-hand cars were registered in the first four months of 2011, slumping by over a quarter compared to the same interval of the preceding year, according to figures supplied by the Traffic Police, quoted by Money.ro. In the car brands’ top 5, the German brand Volkswagen (VW) was preferred by 8,554 Romanians, ranking first. Compared to the previous year, the number of second-hand VW cars registered in Romania slumped by 35 pc. The second position is claimed by a brand owned by the American group GM, Opel. This was the brand of choice for 8,231 Romanians; however, Opel cars-numbers also reported a reduction of over 31 pc, that is, significantly steeper than the overall market slump. With 4,127 second-hand cars registered in the first four months on the year, the American brand Ford ranks third.

Compared to 2010, the number of second-hand Ford vehicles registered ebbed by 13 pc. Audi claims the fourth position, with 2,218 cars registered in Romania in the first four months. The Munich-based car-maker, BMW, ranked fifth, with 1,834 second-hand vehicles registered January to April.
