A 14-year-old pupil tried to jump in the Jiu River with a backpack filled with rocks. Several policemen managed to stop him in time. The 8th grader’s life is not at risk. The boy’s father states that he found rocks in his backpack, a sign that he wanted to do what several of his colleagues did previously. Moreover, the boy left a farewell letter in his desk, telling his colleagues that he plans to commit suicide. The pupil was dissatisfied because he failed his geography class. Prior to this incident two pupils killed themselves by jumping in the Jiu River and a third, a girl, was stopped from doing the same. County School Inspectorate representatives have distributed several questionnaires in schools in an attempt to see the pupils’ state of mind.
