Chisinau mayor demands city council vote recount

Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca and representatives of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) demanded a vote recount in elections for the city’s General Council, accusing the Communist Party of fraud, Unimedia reported. Communists won 26 seats in the council in last weekend’s election, while the AEI won 25. Chirtoaca is also facing a run-off against Communist candidate Igor Dodon for the mayor position. The incumbent mayor was endorsed for the job by all AEI leaders.
