Confidence in the Opposition leaders Victor Ponta (PSD) and Crin Antonescu (PNL) once again rose in May, finds a poll conducted by IMAS for the Adevarul newspaper during May 9-16. The two politicians now are at confidence levels similar to those they had when they created USL, after drops in March and April. Thus, according to the IMAS poll, PNL President Crin Antonescu leads the top of confidence, with 31.2 pc, followed by his PSD counterpart Victor Ponta, with 28.2 pc, while Senate speaker Mircea Geoana (PSD) is trusted by 16.4 pc of the poll subjects. On the other hand, the prominent politicians of PDL are at low popularity scores: Traian Basescu – 12.4 pc, Vasile Blaga – 10.8 pc, Emil Boc – 8.3 pc. The president of the Pro-Democratia NGO, Cristian Parvulescu believes the comeback registered by the Opposition in May could be determined by the conflicts that appeared inside PDL. “The internal competition between Boc and Blaga in PDL looked like a split-up. The battle that preceded the internal elections of PDL, on May 14, contributed to the newfound confidence in the Opposition leaders, I think,” Parvulescu said, quoted by Adevarul. His opinion is shared by political analyst Bogdan Teodorescu, who believes that the Opposition leaders would not have enjoyed such an obvious increase, perhaps, if PDL renounced Emil Boc and Elena Udrea.
