Ex-PDL mayor had himself painted on church wall

An ex-mayor, member of the Democrat Liberal Party (PDL), had himself portrayed on the walls of a church, alongside the saints. Mihai Alexa considered he was entitled to this after sponsoring the restoration of the church paintings. The politician also ensured that his wife and children would be painted, as well, at the entrance in the church. Many parishioners were disturbed by this, but the priest argues this is nothing out of the ordinary. The painting of the church in question was restored between 1994 and 2000. The main sponsor was Mihai Alexa, who was to become a mayor on behalf of PDL. At the time, the politician donated nearly RON 80 M. According to Antena 3, the ex-mayor, Mihai Alexa, refused to comment on the subject, but advised all people who have the means to join in similar actions.
