CSM proposes transfer of CC to the competence area of magistracy

The Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) considers that a solution to reinforce the constitutional authority and the rule of law could be transferring the Constitutional Court (CC) to the competence area of magistracy, strengthening the status of prosecutors and allowing CSM to draft laws, reads a press release sent by the Council to Mediafax. CSM considers that the initiative of revising the Constitution is an important opportunity for the Romanian society to put on debate solutions meant to constitutionally reinforce the rule of law. “Such solutions can be removing all political influences in the process of appointing the judges of the Constitutional Court and transferring this important constitutional authority to the competence area of magistracy, strengthening the constitutional status of prosecutors and expanding the legal initiative to the CSM, in relation to the regulations that refer to justice and citizens’ rights and freedoms,” reads the CSM release.
