Central Bank governor remains people’s favourite for PM job

National Bank of Romania Governor Mugur Isarescu remains the most popular contender for the prime minister seat, according to a CSCI opinion poll ordered by Realitatea TV. Isarescu is the best choice for PM in the opinion of 35 per cent of respondents in the poll. He is followed by Social Democrat leader Victor Ponta (30 per cent), Sibiu Mayor Klaus Iohannis (9 per cent) and incumbent government head Emil Boc (5 per cent). The survey also reveals that 61 per cent of respondents believe Romania needs a technocrat government, while 18 per cent believe the current government should stay on.

In what regards people’s confidence in politicians, most respondents voiced trust in Liberal leader Crin Antonescu (36 per cent) and Ponta (35 per cent), followed by President Traian Basescu (22 per cent), Boc (11 per cent), Greater Romania Party leader Corneliu Vadim Tudor (9 per cent), OTV owner Dan Diaconescu (9 per cent) and Demo­cratic Union of Hungarians in Roma­nia leader Kelemen Hunor (6 per cent).
