The Romanian National Company of Motorways and National Roads (CNADNR) awarded to Romanian and foreign companies three contracts for the upgrading of National Road DN 18 Baia Mare-Sighetul Marmatiei-Iacobeni (over 200 km). The investment is worth a total RON 658.9 M (approximately EUR 156.13 M), Mediafax informs. The first contract, for upgrading the 61 km segment between Baia Mare and Sighetul Marmatiei, has been awarded to Greek company Aktor, at a cost of RON 182.4 M (VAT excluded). The second contract, which moves forward the upgrading of the Sighetul Marmatiei – Moisei segment (69 km) went to the Romanian consortium Spedition UMB-Tehnostrade (both companies controlled by businessman Dorin Umbrarescu), for RON 136.44 M (VAT exclusive). The last contract, for the Moisei-Iacobeni segment (89 km) has been won by Israeli company Shapir Structures, at a cost of RON 340.06 (VAT excluded).
The project is financed by the European Investment Bank and the Romanian state. Upgrade works will take 24 months, plus another 24 months as warranty period.
