Rowing: Romanian juniors win 9 European medals

The Romanian delegation won 9 medals at the European Rowing Junior Championships in Kruszwica, Poland – 4 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals. Romania won the gold medals in the women’s 8+ event, the men’s 4+ event, the women’s 4+ event and the men’s coxless pair event. The silver medals were won in the coxless four event and women’s coxed pair event. The three bronze medals were won by Laura Oprea (women’s single scull event), the women’s double scull event and the men’s coxed four event. “Every time I see juniors managing to win international competitions I am happy that the Romanian Rowing Federation’s effort to raise new generations that would carry on a tradition that spans almost nine decades is paying off. Raising new generations of athletes is not easy at all in the current economic context. Anyway, I can hope that the moment Viorica Susanu and Georgeta Andrunache retire a new generation will take over,” Elisabeta Lipa, President of the Romanian Rowing Federation, stated in a communiqué remitted to Agerpres.
