Protest in Arad against territorial reform

Approximately 50 people picketed, on Wednesday afternoon, the Arad County Council office, displeased with the territorial reorganization plan proposed by the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL), Mediafax reports. The protesters were bearing signs saying “We will go on being Arad after the elections” and “We want respect, we want a referendum”, and most of the participants were sporting white t-shorts with the inscription “Don’t dissolve Arad County!” The participants in the protest were representatives of civic associations, trade unions and the local organizations of opposition parties, which formed, recently, the Arad County Rescue Committee.

Eleven members of the Arad County Council filed, recently, a bill for a resolution for the organization of a referendum on the topic of the territorial reform and the dissolution of the county. Representatives of the Social Liberal Union (USL) Arad stated, on Monday, that they continued to back organising a referendum on the projected merging of counties, even if PDL decided to put the project on hold.
