PDL Dolj leader Radu Berceanu says it’s time to step down

PDL Dolj leader Radu Berceanu says he is the only local party leader to hold this position since February 1990, and “perhaps this is too much, or enough,” and he should step down, Mediafax reports.

Berceanu said Friday, on a local TV that he might stay away from next year’s elections. On the same occasion, Berceanu lashed out at his party’s MEPs Monica Macovei and Cristian Preda, and also at Transport Minister Anca Boagiu. He described former Justice Minister Monica Macovei as “a former communist prosecutor” that should look into her past, “before trying to be Mother Teresa.” On the other hand, Berceanu said Cristian Preda “knows nothing about the Dolj organisation” and is completely ignored by Dolj voters. Preda and Berceanu got into a series of verbal disputes during the PDL congress earlier this year. Asked to comment about Berceanu’s statement, Preda told Mediafax that the former minister of Transport did not lose his humour, despite the political troubles he experiences of late.

Berceanu also criticised Anca Boagiu, saying that she never had a project of her own with European financing, and only attended the auctions arranged while he was the minister of Transport.
