Ukraine warned over Bystroye

The 4th Meeting of the Parties to the Aarhus Convention held in Chisinau June 29-July 1 learned, as a result of notification by Romania and some Ukrainian NGOs, that Ukraine continues infringing on the Convention provisions, Mediafax cited a Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) release as saying. “(…) The meeting ascertained that Ukraine continues encroaching on the Convention stipulations. Ukraine has therefore been warned that, unless it meets its obligations, its rights and privileges could be suspended, resulting from its being a Convention member, at the next meeting (2014),” the release states. According to the source quoted, if Ukraine decides to comply with the measures demanded by the 2nd Meeting of the Parties (Alma-Ata, 2005), the warning could be waved on June 1, 2012.
