Michael Buffer, the world’s best known ring announcer, arrived in Bucharest Wednesday. He will introduce the two fighters, Lucian Bute and France’s Jean Paul Mendy at the July 9 “A Champion for Romania” gala where the Romanian IBF super middleweight world champion will defend his title against his French challenger. Buffer described the Romanian as “an extraordinary champion” and one of the current best boxers in the world.
“This is my first time in Romania. As a tourist, I would like to visit the Vlad the Impaller – Dracula – Castle. I don’t know how famous my voice is, though it is nice it’s known in Romania, Europe. I have introduced Lucian Bute several times before, he is an extraordinary champion, unbeatable, he knows how to fight when he is injured, he knows how to get back into the fight and win,” Buffer said after his flight arrived at the Henri Coanda Airport. Buffer also expressed his joy at Romanian boxing fans having the opportunity to see Bute “at work” held the bout as difficult. “I predict a fight where Romanian fans will bite their nails out of excitement. However, Lucian is the favourite since he is the champion and has been undefeated. I believe that Lucian will say I’m “still a champion” at the end of the fight, the American announcer said.
In his turn, Stephane Larouche, Lucian Bute’s manager, while on Dolce Sport, said that Bute’s movement speed inn the ring is above average. “There are a couple of sportspeople who would not train with me since I am too tough. With Lucian however, I have to make him stop as he wants to do too much, he is this kind of boxer. Lucian and I have a similar vision about boxing, we want to understand the game and we talk a lot about it, we exchange ideas,” Larouche said.
Boxing fans are invited, on Saturday at 9pm to watch the fight on giant 565 square meter screens in “Piata Timpului”, in the proximity of the Cocor Store.
