Geoana defends Vanghelie

Former PSD President Mircea Geoana stated on Saturday that the “problem” with PSD Bucharest should be solved as soon as possible by organizing elections for that party branch’s leadership, pointing out that the branch did its duty during the elections and that the branch was not the one asking for its leader to be replaced. “What I didn’t understand very well is whether this action (to replace party branch leader Marian Vanghelie – editor’s note) was a move against the President of the party’s Bucharest branch or whether it was caused by the branch’s poor performance in previous elections, because in previous elections the PSD candidate, namely I, won in Bucharest for the first time in the last 20 years although he did so with the help of some Liberal voters too. The Bucharest branch did its duty; if there’s a covert interest here then that’s something else,” Mircea Geoana underlined during a show on Realitatea TV. Vanghelie lost the leadership of PSD’s Bucharest branch at the end of June, party President Victor Ponta announcing that the branch will be led by a Coordinating Bureau “during the pre-elections period.”
