Six persons were killed and seven others, including a ten-year-old girl, were seriously injured in a series of serious car crashes.
A drunk driver entered the opposite lane, colliding with two vehicles and then killing a pedestrian on a sidewalk. The crash took place on Saturday night on National Road 17 in Campulung Moldovenesc, Suceava County. The 25-year-old driver had just left a party and had four passengers onboard. Falling asleep, the young man lost control of the car, killing a 62-year-old pedestrian on the sidewalk. The elderly man died on the spot, while an 18-year-old passenger was hospitalized with serious injuries. The drunk driver had an alcohol level of 0.46 per one thousand.
Tragic day in Arad County too, three people dying in two car crashes in just three hours. The first car crash took place within an intersection in Arad. A motorcyclist ignored the red light, hit a vehicle and crashed into a pole. The impact was fatal. Several hours later two people died on National Road 79 after one of their car’s wheels exploded, overturning the vehicle.
A serious car crash too place on Saturday night in Bucharest. A speeding driver crashed into a pole near the Ghencea stadium. A passenger was seriously injured too. “We found two victims caught in the mangled wreckage. Our intervention was difficult. (…) We had to cut open the car, but it ended fine. We found the victims alive,” Aldea Alexandru, lieutenant within Bucharest’s Emergency Situations Inspectorate, stated.
Also on Saturday, a terrible car crash took place in Cluj. Two women and a 10-year-old girl were hit by a motorcycle on a pedestrian crossing. The victims were in a serious condition and were taken to the emergency hospital in Cluj-Napoca. The 10-year-old girl was crossing the street along with her grandmother and another woman.
Eyewitnesses state that the pedestrians started to cross the street on the green light but the light changed when they were in the middle of the street.
On the other hand, a policeman from Alesd was detained for drunk driving and causing bodily harm. On Friday evening the policeman seriously injured a woman that was walking on the sidewalk. Immediately after the accident the policeman filed his resignation.
However, in some cases police officers are attacked by drivers. Such a case took place on Saturday in Ilia locality, Hunedoara County. While on duty on National Road 7, a police officer was attacked by a driver that had been pulled over for reckless overtaking.
