Regional Development and Tourism Minister Elena Udrea stated on Monday that the Ministry she leads tops the absorption of European funds and it plans to absorb all funds placed at its disposal two years before the deadline, Mediafax informs. The Minister was present in Ploiesti where she signed two contracts financed from European funds. Udrea pointed out that the Ministry she leads is “about to reach the EUR 4.3 bln target” set for 2013 and that it plans to absorb all those funds by the end of this year. “Then we will deal exclusively with backing the beneficiaries, the local authorities, in implementing the projects,” Elena Udrea added. In this context, Udrea showed that Romania has contracted EUR 12 bln from European funds, however from that sum Romania paid only “a little over EUR 1 bln” for completed works. The Minister also stated that “most of the contracting authorities” set the tender books in such a way that only certain companies win the tenders.
