The Romanian Post will continue the process of restructuring its network, by shutting down 450 offices, an operation which presupposes axing 1,400 jobs, after 900 of its offices have already been dissolved, so that the network now includes 6,100 units, Mediafax reports. 402 sub-units and 47 rural automated post-offices (specialized in processing correspondence sent from the rural areas), the state company announced, yesterday. The company’s director general, Dan Neagoe, stated, in a press conference, that the staff would be redistributed to other units of the company, such as the banking enterprise or the insurance company that the Romanian Post proposed to set up. He added that potential lay-offs would be decided following an analysis. On the other hand, the Romanian Post National Company is also looking into the possibility of penetrating the banking market as of 2012, “Romania Libera” reports.
