Olguta Vasilescu, spokesperson of PSD Departments, accused the government yesterday of not adopting a position toward Bulgaria’s plans to build a storage site for radioactive waste in Kozloduy. She stated that if the Bulgarian project goes ahead the southern part of Romania’s Dolj County will be a high risk area taking into account that there are also two nuclear reactors in Kozloduy. According to the PSD Senator, the upper limit of radiation has already been reached in the area, the number of deaths caused by cancer growing there in the last 10 years. “We demand the Romanian Government to ask Bulgaria for an impact survey in the border area and to oppose the construction of this storage site because an international convention can be invoked in this sense,” Vasilescu added, being quoted by Mediafax.
On the other hand, PSD accuses the National Integrity Agency (ANI) of fixing a tender for archiving wealth statements, something that caused damages of approximately EUR 1.5 M. According to the PSD Senator, the SC Star Storage company that won the tender offered a price of EUR 1.9 M during the first tender and then one of EUR 3.3 M.
“Approximately EUR 1.5 M were looted because a wolf in sheep’s clothing has been put in charge of ANI,” she stated.
