Fines for failure to take compulsory home insurance, to be applied as of August

As of August 5, 2011 mayors will be able to deal fines to citizens who failed to take the compulsory home insurance policies, according to the chair of the Insurance Supervisory Commission (CSA), Angela Toncescu, informs. The latter announced that CSA would set up a joint database for both compulsory and optional insurance policies, which would be at the disposal of the local authorities. Out of the 8.4 million homes in Romania, only 40 pc have been insured, so far, against the risk of natural disasters, by compulsory or optional policies. Out of the total policies signed, only 7.4 pc (approx. 640,000 homes) are compulsory policies.
