The Arad-based company Astra Vagoane Calatori unveiled, on Friday, the first tramcar made in Romania, called Imperio and produced in partnership with Siemens, which will be available at approx. EUR 1.7 M, 30 pc below the prices of similar products on the global market, Mediafax reports.
According to representatives of the company, Imperio is the newest tramcar model produced on the global market and the most cost-effective tramcar in the world. The model has low floors and can accommodate between 168 and 240 passengers, depending on the number of modules it comprises, namely, three or four. The majority shareholder of Astra Vagoane Calatori Arad, Valer Blidar, stated that the tramcar would start running as soon as the local authorities in Romania organize bids for its purchase.
In turn, one of the representatives of the Siemens management stated that the product was a highly competitive one on the global market. “We (e.n. Siemens) produced the traction system, while Astra were in charge of the total assembly and the production of the body. Our collaboration has been perfect so far. It is a competitive product, we are using our most up-to-date technology for this tramcar,” the Siemens official stated.
