Marian Vanghelie, the mayor of Bucharest’s district 5, Saturday said he would run for president of the Bucharest office of the Social-Democrat Party (PSD), if such election were held. “I will stand, without a question, for the position of president of PSD Bucharest, at any time, obviously, if elections are the case,” he said. While he acknowledged having felt a bit “offended” when the decision was reached for a branch coordinating Bureau being set up, he nonetheless said he put it all behind him. On June 28, PSD President Victor Ponta announced that “during the pre-electoral period,” PSD Bucharest will be headed by a coordinating Bureau whose membership included Marian Vanghelie, the branch’s former president. Ponta, who made the announcement after the session of the PSD National Executive Committee, insisted it is a “strictly organisational” decision.
