Schengen Not Bulgaria’s Top Priority – EU Commissioner

Bulgaria will enter the Schengen Agreement, but its accession to the European border-free zone is not its highest priority right now, according to the country’s EU Commissioner, Kristalina Georgieva, Sofia News Agency informs. “We are technically ready to join Schengen, but its hardly a priority for the Bulgarian nation,” Georgieva said Monday, as cited by the BGNES news agency. Georgieva, who is the EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid, Crisis Response and International Cooperation, stated she expected EC’s annual monitoring report on Bulgaria under the so called Cooperation and Verification Mechanism will be unbiased. The report will be a positive step for both Bulgaria and Romania, as it will point out both their progress and problems, she said.
