The insurance industry reported, in 2010, net losses of RON 41.37 M, 59.9 pc below losses reported at the end of the preceding year, according to the annual report of the National Insurance Supervisory Commission (CSA), quoted by Mediafax. In 2009, the insurers’ net losses amounted to RON 103.22 M, also an improvement on the preceding year’s RON 582.46 M-losses. According to CSA figures, the companies’ joint losses amounted to RON 276.64 M last year, against RON 235.27 M-earnings. Moving on to another topic, insurance and brokerage companies had, at the end of the preceding year, 19,058 employees, shrinking by 7.1 pc, or 1,454 employees, from 2009’s staff numbers, after restructurings undertaken to cut down on expenses and after a number of players went out of the game.
