Insurers’ losses slump by nearly 60 pc

The insurance industry reported, in 2010, net losses of RON 41.37 M, 59.9 pc below losses re­ported at the end of the preceding year, according to the annual report of the National Insu­rance Supervisory Commission (CSA), quoted by Me­diafax. In 2009, the insurers’ net losses amoun­ted to RON 103.22 M, also an improvement on the preceding year’s RON 582.46 M-losses. Ac­cording to CSA figures, the companies’ joint losses amounted to RON 276.64 M last year, against RON 235.27 M-earnings. Moving on to another topic, insurance and brokerage companies had, at the end of the preceding year, 19,058 employees, shrinking by 7.1 pc, or 1,454 em­ployees, from 2009’s staff numbers, after restructurings undertaken to cut down on ex­penses and after a number of players went out of the game.
