Brasov banknote forgers’ homes searched

The prosecutors with the Organised Crime and Terrorism Investigation Department (DIICOT) and the Police yesterday conducted 18 searches at the Brasov addresses of banknote forgers, an institution release quoted by Mediafax informs.

The operation was aimed at dismantling an organised criminal group specialising in forging and introducing on the market fake Romanian and foreign currency banknotes. ‘The evidence gathered so far indicates that the defendants were mainly forging 100 RON, 50 EUR banknotes, as well as Moldovan lei and possibly Chinese yuans,’ say the DIICOT prosecutors.
The banknote forging group includes 10 people who were going to be remanded in custody for an initial period of 29 day awaiting trial, on charges of joining and supporting an organised criminal group for the commission of crimes, forgery of banknotes and fraud.
