Pupils will be granted access to the school building only if they carry a magnetic card. Furthermore, the attendance sheet will be based on the same card, as teachers will receive a list with the names of those who validated the “ID” before class.
The system will be implemented as of this autumn and is meant to reduce truancy rates and to create a safer environment for pupils, according to the state secretary in the Education Ministry, Oana Badea, quoted by Realitatea TV. “This system of recording access to the school building solves two problems. On the one hand, it enhances the students’ safety in schools and, at the same time, in real terms, within five minutes since the time the class starts, every class master will have a list with the names of students present, absent and those running late,” the state secretary added. Another novelty element is the introduction of a reading class for 1st to 8th-graders, as of the next school year.
