The Blessed Father (PF) Daniel, the patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, was, celebrated, on Friday, at Bucharest’s Patriarchal Cathedral, on his 60th birthday, a manifestation attended by hierarchs, members of the Holy Synod, as well as public figures, including the minister of Regional Development and Tourism, Elena Udrea, the Speaker of the Senate Mircea Geoana, the Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi, the Bucharest prefect Mihai Atanasoaiei, the prince Paul and the princess Lia, Mediafax reports. When asked what he wished for his birthday, the patriarch replied he wished, above all, that works on the National Salvation Cathedral would be completed. “We want to finish what we started, as well as do other things. Above all, we want to continue and complete works on the National Salvation Cathedral. You could see how small this one is, it can barely contain the clergy and the press, while the faithful were left standing outside,” PF Daniel added. The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople, president Traian Basescu and the prime-minister Emil Boc also sent messages of congratulation and best wishes to the Blessed Father Daniel.
