The net profit posted by Ford for the first quarter of the fiscal year, April-June, increased by about 22 pc against the same interval of 2010, while the group’s incomes soared by 18 pc to USD 33.1 bln. Ford, which also operates a car factory in Craiova, sold 1.4 million cars in the first fiscal quarter, up from 1.25 million a year ago, reads a press release issued by the group Tuesday, quoted by Mediafax. Ford posted profits in the last eight consecutive quarters, after record losses of EUR 30 bln during 2006-2008 that forced the company to cut its personnel, sell its loss-making brands and revamp its offer of SUVs and mini trucks with less fuel-consuming models. As of next year, the group will manufacture in Craiova the B-class model B-Max, after ending the production of the light utility vehicle Transit Connect.
Ford might export the B-Max manufactured in Craiova to the USA as well, which will turn the small car into the first automobile made in Romania and exported to the USA, Money.ro reports.
