Peru, Romania’s potential opponent on August 10

Messi wants to play in Bucharest.

After the Argentinean Football Federation’s announcement that it has given up on the friendly it should have played against Romania on August 10 and the Romanian Football Federation’s (FRF) failure to schedule a friendly against Portugal instead, a new potential opponent is emerging. Quoted by realitatea.net, Peru’s ‘Libero’ daily wrote that FRF has contacted the Peruvian Federation in order to invite Peru to play in Bucharest.

“A meeting between the Peruvian Federation bosses and head coach Sergio Markarian will take place in order to decide whether this proposal is acceptable. Although there is talk of a large sum, other aspects will nevertheless be analyzed, such as the presence of important players, a presence that depends on their clubs,” ‘Libero’ writes.

FRF spokesperson Paul Zaharia stated for realitatea.net that he is not aware of this option.

Peru recently won the bronze medal in Copa America, Peru’s Paolo Guerrero being the competition’s top goal scorer with 5 goals. Meanwhile, while on vacation in Rosario, his native Argentinean village, Lionel Messi stated for ‘Clarin’ that Argentina should come to Romania because the signed contract has to be observed. “We have to go there in order to defend the team’s and the country’s prestige. We have to respect the contract we signed. There are 50,000 people that have bought tickets and that want to see us. Although I’m on vacation, if I’m called up I’ll go. I’m at the national team’s disposal,” Messi stated.
