The construction price of the Brasov-Bors highway has fallen from EUR 20 M per kilometer to less than half, following the negotiations that took place between the authorities and Becthel, Mediafax informs. Thus, Becthel will resume work this autumn, after it will receive a part of the sums that the state owes.Transport Ministry sources state that “hard negotiations” took place, Bechtel giving up on some of its pretensions in return for the payment of a part of the state’s debt. The price per kilometer remains high however, the highway being one of the most expensive in the world, the aforementioned source points out. “After seven years in which the Americans worked a little and were paid a lot, the Romanian state has asked for the prices to drop by at least 35 per cent. The Americans yielded with difficulty and high-level interventions took place. The American Embassy played an important role. The new agreement will be signed and approved by the government,” the TV station also informed.
