Two prosecutors, on suspension over corruption charges

The Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) decided to suspend the first prosecutor of the Sighisoara Tribunal, Virgil Horatiu Aldea, and prosecutor Radu Eugen Moisescu of the Iasi Tribunal, who were recently sent to court by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA). Aldea was charged with illegally asking the Agriculture Payments and Intervention Agency (APIA) to grant him a subsidy worth RON 60,000 for a plot of farmland. At the time when he made this request, Aldea was no longer using the land, which he had leased to several individuals. In the other case, Radu Eugen Moisescu and two lawyers from the town of Iasi, Alexandru Bernic and Constantin Nastase, were sent in court for asking Gheorghe Catargiu the sum of EUR 1,000, against the promise to intervene in view of canceling the distraint laid upon a BMW automobile.
