Wealth watchdog National Integrity Agency (ANI) is checking Senator Puiu Hasotti (opposition Liberal Party) and Deputy Marius Spin (ruling Democrat Liberal Party) on suspicion of having amassed their fortune illegally, according to Antena 3.
More specifically, Hasotti is probed for failure to justify the source of two bank accounts, of EUR 60,000 and RON 300,000, sums that exceed his family’s incomes. In the case of Spinu, ANI inspectors believe that he did not include several bank accounts, plots of land and cars in his wealth statement. In statements to the TV channel, Hasotti said he had no knowledge of any investigation against him and invited ANI to go ahead and probe him, insisting that he has nothing to hide. In his turn, Spinu said he only owns a house, a plot of land of 1,000 square meters and an Audi manufactured in 2002, which are all included in his wealth statement.
