Champions League: FC Vaslui 0 – Twente Enschede 0

FC Vaslui failed to qualify for the Champions League playoffs, finishing its Wednesday evening game against Twente Enschede (Netherlands) in a tie, score 0-0. The game, played in Piatra Neamt, counted for the return leg of the competition’s third preliminary round. Twente won the first leg, score 2-0. FC Vaslui played modestly, chalking up the fourth game this season in which it is unable to score. FC Vaslui will now enter the playoffs for Europa League’s groups.

The draws for Europa League’s playoffs will take place on Friday in Nyon, starting at 2.30 PM. Europa League’s preliminary round fixtures were played last evening, after the closing of this edition. Gaz Metan Medias played against Germany’s Mainz (1-1 in first leg) and Dinamo Bucharest played against Croatia’s NK Varazdin (2-2 in first leg).

Dinamo Kiev, rangers, Standard and Rosenborg eliminated

The Champions League’s third preliminary round saw the elimination of heavyweights Glasgow Rangers, Dinamo Kiev, Standard Liege and Rosenborg. Here were the results: Rubin Kazan 2 – Dinamo Kiev 1 (4-1 on aggregate); Malmo 1 – Rangers 1 (3-1 on aggregate); FC Vaslui 0 – Twente 0 (0-2 on aggregate); Zurich 1 – Standard 0 (2-1 on aggregate); Plzen 3 – Rosenborg 2 (4-2 on aggregate); Slovan Bratislava 0 – APOEL Nicosia 2 (0-2 on aggregate); Sturm Graz 1 – Zestafoni 0 (2-1 on aggregate); Wisla Krakow 3 – Litex Loveci 1 (5-1 on aggregate); Partizan 1 – Genk 1 (2-3 on aggregate); Dinamo Zagreb 1 – HJK Helsinki 0 (3-1 on aggregate); Maribor 1 – Maccabi Haifa 1 (2-3 on aggregate); Trabzon 1 – Benfica 1 (1-3 on aggregate).
