MP Dan Ilie Morega, former leader of PNL’s Gorj County branch, announced he will join the National Union for the Progress of Romania (UNPR) in order to promote his legislative projects as a member of a ruling coalition party. He pointed out that he will be the head of a department, an office similar to that of Vice President. According to sources quoted by Realitatea.net, Morega will take over the leadership of UNPR’s Gorj County branch. “Being a new party that is a member of the ruling coalition, UNPR can help me through the personalities it has at central level, and by that I mean Mr. Oprea, Mr. Marian Sarbu, Mr. Diaconescu,” Morega stated on Wednesday for Mediafax. The former Liberal leader stated that he resigned from PNL in June 2010, one of the reasons for his decision having to do with the fact that party leader Crin Antonescu “promised one thing during the Congress meeting and did an entirely different thing with the party.”
In his political career Morega (65) was a member of ApR, PNL Campeanu, PRM and PNL. Before the Revolution he was decorated with the title ‘Hero of Socialist Work.’ After 1990 Morega was the prefect of Gorj County and director of the State Assets Fund. In the spring of this year he was sentenced to 3 years in jail with reprieve in the ‘Money for party’ case.
