Glen Johnson, Lucian Bute’s potential opponent

Romanian Football Federation President Rudel Obreja stated on Wednesday that if Lucian Bute and America’s Kelly Pavlik are no longer boxing then the Romanian boxer’s potential opponent will be Jamaica’s Glen Johnson (42), realitatea.net informs.

“Michael Kessler, Robert Stiglitz and Kelly Pavlik don’t want to box. It is obvious Lucian has to box this autumn and Glen Johnson is the only option. People will now say he will box against an old man, but Johnson almost defeated Froch in June,” Obreja said.

Jamaica’s Glen Johnson’s record consists of 68 bouts, of which 51 wins (35 through KO), 15 defeats and 2 ties. On June 4 Britain’s Carl Froch defeated him with the following scores: 116-112, 117-111 and 114-114.

Rudel Obreja stated that Interbox, the company that promotes Lucian Bute, had reached an agreement with Top Brand, Kelly Pavlik;s promoters, however problems appeared between the American boxer and the Top Brand company. “Things are not very clear. Pavlik says he will not box against Lucian. This is a problem between him and his promoters. It’s a strategy to get more money from them. Interbox had reached an agreement with Top Brand but Pavlik wants more money. He considers that if he fights Lucian it is normal for him to ask more money. In fact, he is putting pressure on his promoters,” Obreja added.
