Transport Minister Anca Boagiu was heard, last Thursday, by the National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA), as a witness in the case concerning illegal transactions in the Constanta Harbour. The Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) senator Mircea Banias and the ex-secretary general of the Interior Ministry Laurentiu Mironescu are investigated in this case. The minister’s lawyer, Ion Panaitescu, stated, ironically, that his client’s testimony “was of overwhelming importance for the case”.
“They discussed the waves of the Danube, the Black Sea. She was called in to testify about the waves of the Danube, the Black Sea,” Panaitescu argued. He added that the hearing of the minister had been a public show put on by the anti-corruption prosecutors. According to sources in the judiciary quoted by Mediafax, Anca Boagiu was asked if she was personally acquainted with several defendants in the case, including Mircea Banias, Laurentiu Mironescu or Aurelian Pilca. Anca Boagiu told the investigators she was only acquainted with Banias and Mironescu, given their interactions in the party. 30 people are investigated in the case concerning illegal imports in the Constanta Harbour and 28 were arrested initially.
