New territorial restructuring draft to be ready by September

The minister of Administration and Internal Affairs, Traian Igas said that a draft for the proposed territorial restructuring may be completed by September, adding that there is “a certain amount of openness” from the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR) to analyzing all proposals from the coalition. “We will be fully familiar with the position of our partners in the coalition (e.n. UDMR) once all talks on Romania’s administrative and territorial reorganization are finalized. As you know, work groups to address this have already been set up, some of the matters have been transferred under the Interior Ministry’s authority, we are coordinating the largest work group in the ruling coalition, and I think that, by September, we will be able to come up with a proposal drafted following the debates,” Igas stated, yesterday, in Targu Secuiesc, Mediafax reports. At the same time, the Interior Minister stated there was “a certain amount of openness” from UDMR to analyzing all the proposals originating with the coalition. In his opinion, the topic of territorial reorganization poses no risk for the ruling coalition as UDMR is “a serious partner, which is entirely committed to the program of governing under difficult circumstances”. Igas reiterated that the restructuring process should be completed in 2011, before the 2012 local elections are underway.
