TV crew assaulted by Roma

A Timisoara TV channel’s crew was assaulted by a group of Roma in the city yesterday, according to the website tion.ro. Two police agents present at the scene could not stop the conflict and radioed for help to their Gendarmerie colleagues.
During the brawl, the TVT 89 channel’s director, Gelu Chetraruc, and TV show producer Dan Radosav were injured and a EUR 8,500 video camera was smashed, the website said.

Chetraruc told the website that he and his colleague were covering the case of a woman who had called the police, complaining that she was threatened by a clan of Roma. After talking to the woman, the TV crew was getting ready to leave the scene and that was when they were assaulted, Chetraruc said. He added that the brawl stopped only after the gendarmes arrived and managed to calm down the situation, together with the police. The TV channel director added that he was going to file a complaint against the assailants with the police.
