Igas: Interior Ministry to have 10,000 fewer employees as of October

Interior Minister Traian Igas told a press conference yesterday that the ministry’s restructuring process is close to an end, so as of October, there will be 10,000 fewer employees in the institution’s structures.

The minister made the comments while presenting the results of evaluation tests taken by Interior Ministry workers in order to establish the number of people to be laid off during the institution’s reorganisation, Mediafax reported. Igas underlined that more than 5,000 employees did not pass the evaluation and explained that the tests will continue the following weeks.

Earlier this month, the minister said that about 30,000 employees of the Interior Ministry got their jobs “through connections,” and that more than 63,000 were hired in the system in the last 13 years without having any military training. At the time, Igas vowed that 10,000 of these would be laid off, in order to make the institution more efficient and competent.
