The wealthiest Romanians also claim the top positions in the ranking of the highest debtors to the state, Realitatea.net reports. These include the Nicula brothers, who own European Food, with a RON 134 M-debt to the state budget. The company is now facing enforced execution. Robert Negoita sold hundreds of flats during the real-estate boom, but failed to pay the value-added tax for these, amounting to over RON 20 M, according to the National Tax Administration Agency. The state is now selling the remaining flats to recover the debt. Ioan Niculae accumulated RON 70 M-debts resulting from his chemical products and tobacco businesses. Tax inspectors will also put on sale some of Gigi Becali’s plots of land to recover a debt of over EUR 2 M. Dinu Patriciu also has a RON 1 M-debt to the state budget. Finally, even the state-owned companies have collected debts to the budget, amounting to several billion RON.
