League I: Dinamo remains leader

Head coach Liviu Ciobotariu steered Dinamo towards its fourth consecutive win this season. The team won its away game against Sportul Studentesc on Sunday, score 2-0. The game counted for leg 4 and the goals were scored by Ionel Danciulescu (59th minute) and Liviu Ganea (69th minute). Gabriel Torje decisively assisted the goal-scorers in both cases. The result puts Dinamo at the top of the League I rankings with 12 points out of 12 possible. The interesting fact is that Dinamo, a team known for its frail defence last season, has not conceded a single goal so far.

On Thursday Dinamo will play the return leg against Ukraine’s Vorksla Poltava, a decisive game counting for a place in the Europa League groups. Dinamo lost the first leg, score 1-2.

Steaua however continues its streak of poor games. On Sunday Steaua was defeated by Astra Ploiesti, score 2-1. Gigi Becali’s team had an injured player (Matei, 2nd minute), an uninspired head coach (he sent Nikolic in only to replace him in the 30th minute) and a missed opportunity that changed the game (Tatu failed to score from a one-on-one situation). Astra opened the score just one minute later (N’Doye, 37th minute, penalty kick). From then on Steaua’s game was characterized by confusion, while Astra’s pragmatic style triumphed, Fatai putting Astra two goals ahead in the 53rd minute.

Mihai Costea scored for Steaua in extra time, however the game shown by Steaua is worrisome.

On Thursday Steaua will play its return leg against CSKA Sofia in the Europa League play-off. Steaua won the first leg at home, score 2-0.

Ceahlaul Piatra Neamt won its away game against FC Vaslui, score 2-1. The winning goals were scored in the last 10 minutes of the game.

On Sunday Rapid won its home game against Concordia Chiajna, score 2-0. Pancu opened the score in the 60th minute and sealed the game in the 73rd. He was later sent off.
