Oltchim employees protest over delayed salary payment

Some 150 employees of Mentchim, a subsidiary of Oltchim, protested yesterday under the window of general manager Constantin Roibu, according to evz. The employees should have received yesterday an overdue salary, but as this did not happen, they stopped working and staged a protest. People say they have not been paid for two months. The management blames the situation on the lack of orders, which forced the company to lower its output. Furthermore, as people were shouting under the windows of the management building, trade union leaders said there was no protest. “There is no protest, don’t say there is a protest. These people are from a different company, not from Oltchim. Oltchim has made all due payments,” said Mihai Diculoiu, trade union leader with Oltchim Ramnicu Valcea. About one hour later, the manager and trade union leader convinced protesters to withdraw inside the company yard. Those who opposed were insulted and verbally abused by trade union leader Ionel Vanciu. The employees ceased their protest after two hours, when the management promised to pay the money for June and July by September 1.
