Former PNA head Ioan Amarie under investigation for manslaughter

Ioan Amarie, a former general prosecutor of the National Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (PNA), is being investigated for manslaughter in connection with a road accident in which he was involved and resulted in two persons being killed, Simona Frolu, spokeswoman for the Prosecutor’s Office of the High Court of Cassation and Justice (PICCJ) <Romania’s Supreme Court> said yesterday.  Frolu added that the file is the competence of the Galati Court of Appeal, given Ioan Amarie being a lawyer now. According to, Amarie was involved in a traffic accident on DN 2 E85, near Focsani, August 5. The Police report shows the driver who died in the accident was the person guilty for it, as he failed to give the right of way upon entering the road after fuelling his car at a petrol station. Head of Vrancea Police said yesterday that investigations are under way, but first clues show that Amarie is not guilty. While he was the head of the Dorohoi Prosecutor’s Office, Amarie killed a woman while legally crossing the street, thus being accused of manslaughter, but the charge against him was dropped following a justice ministry expertise.
