The number of public sector employees has dropped to 1.225 million, Prime Minister Emil Boc stated on Friday on the national radio station, hotnews.ro informs. “Through cost standards and personnel standards we adjust how the state functions. Obviously that impacts our image as a government,” he said. Likewise, Premier Boc underlined that the EUR project will be in danger unless Euro Zone member states fail to adopt austerity measures. He warned that despite Romania’s relatively low public debt, a public debt that stands at approximately 30 per cent of its GDP, loans will grow exponentially if expenditures go out of control. PM Boc avoided to clearly state whether it is possible to lower to 9 per cent the VAT for food services in the tourism industry, stating that the government will adopt this measure only if it is economically possible.
