National team preparing for games against Luxembourg and France

National team players met yesterday within the Mogosoaia training centre in order to prepare for their EURO 2012 preliminary games against Luxembourg (September 2, away game) and France (September 6, home game). Head coach Victor Piturca (photo) kept his word and did not call up Adrian Mutu and Gabi Tamas (banned from the team on disciplinary grounds). Piturca is trying to stimulate the players, being of the opinion that the game against Luxembourg will be more difficult than it seems.

“The most important game now is the one against Luxembourg, but I see it’s not seen as being too important. Let me tell you this, Luxembourg is a dangerous team, not winning would be a tragedy. An extremely difficult game is ahead. Unless we play our best, at least from a physical point of view, we will have problems,” Piturca said during the press conference in Mogosoaia, gsp.ro informs.

Romania is 4th in Group D, totaling 8 points, 5 points behind group leader France.

The new names on the list of players called up by Piturca are fullbacks Alexandru Matel (Astra Ploiesti), called up for the first time, and George Galamaz (Steaua), who returns at the national team after last year’s friendlies against Honduras and Turkey.

Here is the full list of players called up:
