The reference exchange rate RON/CHF announced yesterday by the Central Bank has dropped by 11.39 Ban (RON 0.1139) to 3.5910 units for a Swiss franc (CHF). A lower exchange rate has been announced on July 22, when one Swiss franc traded for RON 3.5721. The official exchange rate for the euro dropped by 0.47 Ban, to 4.2402 RON/EUR, reaching a new bottom after August 4. The Romanian currency appreciated Monday against the Swiss franc for the sixth session in a row. Also Monday, the exchange rate against the US dollar was set at 2.9227 RON/USD. The appreciation of the RON was due to the euro gaining ground against the dollar, after the head of the US Federal Reserve, Ben Bernanke on Friday lifted investors’ expectations regarding a possible new round of measures aimed at stimulating the US economy, dealers said, quoted by Mediafax.
EUR 50 M projects through Hungary-Romania cooperation program
Hungary’s National Development Agency and Romania’s Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism on Monday launched the fifth request for projects run through the Hungary-Romania Trans-border Cooperation Program, which has been allotted EUR 51.3 M in EU funds. The request is especially for investments in trans-border infrastructure serving transport, communications, the environment, business, tourism, research, healthcare and common risk prevention, says a press release by the ministry. The deadline for project submission is January 31, 2012.
