The price of wheat offered by processors in Buzau County dropped from RON 0.7 to RON 0.5 per kilogram this month. “At the start of the agricultural campaign processors were offering RON 0.7 for a kilogram of wheat harvested at optimal parameters of quality. Now, a month later, the price dropped below the profitability threshold,” Cosmin Florea, head of Buzau County’s Agriculture and Rural Development Office, stated. The official claims that “this price is profitable only for farmers that obtained a production of 4,000 kilograms per hectare, but the average production this year stands at 3,500 kilograms per hectare.” Likewise, Florea claims that a solution would be to store the harvest in authorized storage sites until the price stabilizes. In Bacau County the wheat harvesting campaign is drawing to a close, the 59,000 hectares yielding an average production of 3,500 kilograms per hectare.
