The RON/CHF reference exchange rate that the National Bank of Romania (BNR) announced on Friday grew by RON 0.1097 to RON 3.8156/CHF, while the RON/EUR rate grew by RON 0.112 to RON 4.2418/EUR. The RON thus registered the third consecutive day of depreciation against the two currencies. The national currency depreciated against the USD on Friday too, the exchange rate growing by RON 0.164 to RON 2.9764/USD. In this context, Hungarian Premier Viktor Orban warned the population on Friday that it would be “an illusion” for the population to expect a weaker CHF and stated that the ruling party will soon discuss new measures meant to help out the persons that have problems paying their CHF-denominated loans, Reuters informs. In August the CHF surpassed HUF 250, given the extreme volatility seen on financial markets in the first part of the month.
