Ministers explain restrictions in Spain

Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Baconschi stated on Tuesday within the Lower Chamber’s Labor Commission that the labor restrictions imposed by Spain on Romanian workers have “an electoral logic” although it is unclear which side “will tally its effects.” Baconschi reminded that Spain’s decision could have been challenged at the European Commission but the Romanian authorities decided not to do that anymore, preferring to solve the situation at bilateral level. In his turn, Labor Minister Sebastian Lazaroiu told the MPs that he talked with the representatives of Spain’s Popular Party, an opposition party, and they told him that if they come to power they will not lift the restriction but will analyze the measure because they consider it discriminatory.
