Justice reform, anti-graft efforts on Predoiu’s UK agenda

Justice Minister Catalin Predoiu continued his diplomatic tour de force with a two-day visit to the United Kingdom, kicked off yesterday. According to a press release from the UK Embassy to Romania, Predoiu yesterday met with Secretary of State for Justice Kenneth Clarke and discussed Bucharest’s efforts to reform the judiciary and tackle corruption. This visit is part of a programme for UK-Romanian cooperation agreed between Prime Minister David Cameron and Romanian President Traian Basescu in June this year, the release said. It also quoted Clarke as saying that he is “particularly pleased to see the progress that has been made to improve the efficiency of the judiciary and the strengthening of the bodies which support anti-corruption.”
